I am a budding gardener.  I planted my first garden the year we moved out to the country, in 2010.   I simply added compost to our rich, fertile soil into four raised rows, 36 inches across with 18-inch walkways.  What I planted nearly all flourished, and along with my plants my admiration for gardening grew.  The next year, emboldened by my success, I tripled the size of my garden.  The summer of 2011 was laced with heat waves, and the only thing that grew in my garden that year was weeds.  I was discouraged, but distracted with my pregnancy of my second daughter anyway.  I knew I couldn’t handle that 16 x 30-foot plot in 2012, so I took the advice of a few friends and decided to try Square Foot Gardening instead.  I’ll never look back!  2012 was my most successful year yet of gardening and now I am officially hooked!DSC01194
